I just purchased a older boat, with a couple thick coats of paint on the exterior in interior of the boat (14ft alumacraft). i want the exterior to have a brushed aluminum, does anyone have any good ways of getting the paint off of the exterior?. Sand the boat down. start with 600 grit sandpaper and work up. create a smooth surface so the paint can adhere to the boat. failure to remove any rough patches or old paint could cause the new paint to peel or fleck later on. wipe down the boat after sanding with a dry cloth.. Awhile back when we were de-naming our boat by trying different methods to remove paint and see if it was what we wanted for the final product, there was a debate on if we did in fact want to go down to bare metal or just remove the top layer and repaint with a fresh white coat. and if we did.
