Building Boat Mold
Just taking in what i have to do to the hull mold to get it ready to build a boat out of. things like, drain the water, some light sanding, an over all buffing, and then 8 coats of mold release.. It sounds like you want to build one boat, not a bunch of them, which usually makes a mold a waste of time. it also sounds like you want a lightweight boat, which makes fiberglass far less appealing than plywood. mat is used with polyester or vinylester, not epoxy, and it is very heavy when laid up by hand.. A mold is made from a plug, the plug is an el cheapo boat, constructed to perfect 1:1 scale, but usually using the cheapest materials that will allow good security to be able to cover with a mold. the plug is usually scrapped after the mold is pulled..
Boat building requires enough space, under cover, so that the builder can easily move around the hull during construction, or the boat can be built on a trailer so the hull can be moved out of the shelter for construction sessions.. In general round bilge hulls such as sail boats are best built over a batten mold & power boats are usually but not always built in a female mold. we have developed a 'cheap one-off mold' fiberglass boat building system that is ideal for building larger powerboats..
